Quebec
City's Old Town is the only North American fortified city
north of Mexico whose walls still exist, and was declared
a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985 as the "Historic
District of Old Quebec". It is also one of the oldest
cities in North America (founded in 1608). Quebec City is
internationally known for its Summer Festival, Winter Carnival
and the Château Frontenac, a historic hotel which dominates
the city skyline. Among the tourist attractions near the city
are Montmorency Falls and the Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré
in the town of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré.
The
Charlevoix region, located in Quebec, includes parts of the
north shore of the Saint Lawrence River and the Laurentian
mountains region of the Canadian Shield. This dramatic landscape
includes rolling terrain, fjords, headlands and bays.
The
Saguenay River (French: rivière Saguenay) is a major
river of Quebec, Canada. It drains into the Saint Lawrence
River at Tadoussac. Many Beluga whales breed in the cold waters
at its mouth, making Tadoussac a popular site for whale watching
and sea kayaking; in these waters, you may also encounter
the Greenland shark. The confluence of the Saguenay and Saint
Lawrence is protected by the SaguenaySt. Lawrence Marine
Park, one of Canada's national parks.
